Lavender Lotus Dance

Lavender Lotus Dance is Tulsa's source for tribal fusion belly dance. We are Oklahoma's first certified Datura Style™ Studio, and we are also a Fat Chance Belly Dance® Sister Studio.

Lavender Lotus invites dancers from every walk of life to join in the global community of Tribal Belly Dance. It is our mission to create a safe space for dancers to learn and create freely without judgement, and to create community. All it takes is a hardy interest in belly dance, a willingness to learn,  and an open heart.

Music: Ganpati- Masaladosa

Lavender Lotus Dance was founded by Althena in 2011 as a FatChanceBellyDance® Sister Studio. Under her helm Lavender Lotus performed as an opener for Beats Antique, festivals such as 3rd Coast Tribal, and organized events in the local community to bring belly dance and volunteerism together, supporting the ASPCA, Dogs for Veterans and the OK Food bank. Althena highly influenced her students to recognize their impact as global stewards and promote antiquity revival in costuming, to treasure and utilize the works of artisans who came before us.

Dancer & Instructor

Ruth is no stranger to the unusual dance known as Tribal Belly Dance. In late 2010 she first saw the style performed at a local festival, and was forever moved. The costuming, regal posture, music, and community drew her in and she’s never looked back.
She has dived into study with the founders and innovators of the style, and enjoys every opportunity to train and create with dedicated dancers.

She is Oklahoma's first Certified Datura Style™ Instructor and Practitioner of Rachel Brice's 8 Elements of Belly Dance™. She is also a Fat Chance Belly Dance® Sister Studio.

She is dedicated to her craft, continuing studies with her teachers, Ariellah, Althena, Faelan Shiva, Mardi Love, Zoe Jakes, Carolena Nericcio, and Rachel Brice.

American Tribal Style® Belly Dance

American Tribal Style® Belly Dance (ATS®) is a modern style of dance created by FatChanceBellyDance® director, Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman

Carolena's troupe, Fat Chance Belly Dance, developed a system of improvisation that uses gestures to communicate the next step!

American Tribal Style is a modern mix of classic egyptian and folkloric styles of belly dance, with a distinctive use of group improvisation. The costuming of ATS is heavily inspired by a variety of Middle Eastern and African influences.

For more information straight from the source, visit FCBD, the founders of American Tribal Style®. We love our teachers!

Datura Style™ Belly Dance

Datura Style™ Belly Dance is Rachel Brice's Tribal Fusion style that arose through her study of dance, distilling influences throughout her studies.

Datura Style™  refers to both an approach to technique and dance vocabulary that may be used for improvisation and choreography.

To describe this style is to thank those that have come before:

The movements are rooted in the elegant posture and carriage of American Tribal Style®, Jill Parker's serpentine movement, among other incredible influences. Datura Style™ aesthetic is influenced by Mardi Love's attention to quality, antique, storied materials, creating a tribal glamour.

Visit Rachel Brice's Studio Datura for a full description of Datura Style™ and its influences, and much more!
